KATHY

KRISTI

Kathy Welcomes You

…to the exciting beginning of a miracle that is about to take place in your life. As your Doula it is my goal to assist you in
making this the most memorable event that has ever taken place in your life.  I have been present at many births, each one
so very different and memorable.

I am the mother of two sons. I graduated from Stevens Point with a strong desire to go into the medical field. For 8 years I
did work in hospital settings. I worked in the Education Department and Nursing Services Departments as well as working on
a Oncology Unit in Milwaukee.

I have since worked for County Government for the past 27 years while my husband and myself have enjoyed watching our
two sons grow up. My births were what I thought at that time to be a"typical hospital birth", but have always felt something
had been missing.  After the birth I learned that I hadn't been wise to all my options, rights and choices.
My interest really peaked when I went with a dear friend, her husband and 3-year-old daughter to be with them during the
birth of their 2nd daughter. I had a double duty. I helped keep the 3-year-old entertained and video taped the birth of Rachel.
I was also asked by a dear friend to be at her side during her scheduled cesarean for the birth of her child, which she chose to
place for adoption. I was helping those close to me and at the same time they helping me realize how wonderful, empowering
and sacred birth can be and that I wanted to continue helping other women while they give birth.

I am now a Certified Birth Doula and a member of DONA (Doulas of North America). I completed my Doula Training at St.
Mary's Birth Center in Milwaukee. Since the completion of my Doula Training I have also taken a Swedish Massage Class
through the Fox Valley School of Massage and a Breast Feeding Class at our local hospital and was able to observe a "Bradley
Method" Class, which is a course in Natural Childbirth Education.  I am also an active member of Operation Doula Care
(ODC), which was formed in response to the events of 9/11/01. ODC helps pregnant wives of US Military men that have been
called up, deployed, injured or have become deceased as a direct result of Operation Enduring Freedom.

I have always felt passionate about pregnancy and the birth experience and find the role I play as a Doula extremely
rewarding.  Nurturing is second nature to me and I have formed wonderful bonds with the couples and babies that I have
worked with.  I don't look at my role as a doula as a job but as an extension of my life as a woman, mother and friend.

Kristi Welcomes You

…to the wondrous journey that brings you to parenthood.  I would love to help you in this journey whether it be education to
get ready for labor, a helping hand during labor and/or getting adjusted after the little one comes home.

In my heart I've always been a Doula, but it is only recently that I've discovered it.  I am a Certified Birth Doula, completing
the training in Madison. I’m a member of DONA (Doulas of North America) and OSD  (Operation Special Delivery) which
helps military wives give birth after the deployment of a spouse. I feel blessed and honored to be included in each and every
birth that I attend.

My husband and I own and operate a mechanical contracting business and run a beef farm. We have had the joy of raising 4
children.

It was after the birth of my 4th baby, a very short labor and easy birth that I thought everyone deserves a birth like that
one.  There happened to be an extra nurse on duty that day. She was encouraging and seemed to know what was going on with
me.  Since there was another nurse that was doing the “nurse” work, I could have a doula nurse.  It was wonderful.  I knew
from past births that this was definitely not the norm but the exception.  I was grateful.

I learned many things from my own birth experiences.  Most important is that a woman in labor needs empathetic, patient
and calm support.  Knowledge about the birth process is imperative to make choices that are right for the journey you are
both making.

I believe the woman's body is made to reproduce. We need to trust in this wondrous birth process and create a soothing, safe
environment where mama can work hard and enjoy the arrival of the new baby. This is an experience that will last a lifetime
in memory.
Everything should be done to ensure it is a cherished one.
