Kathy welcomes you...to the exciting beginning of a miracle that is about to take place in your life. As your Doula it is my goal to assist you in making this the most memorable event that has ever taken place in your life. I have been present at many births, each one so very different and memorable.
I graduated from Stevens Point with a strong desire to go into the medical field. For 8 years I did work in hospital settings. I worked in the Education Department and Nursing Services Departments as well as working on a Oncology Unit in Milwaukee. |
I had worked for County Government for 29 years while my husband and myself have enjoyed watching our two sons grow up. My births were what I thought at that time to be a "typical hospital birth", but have always felt something had been missing. After the births I learned that I hadn't been wise to all my options, rights and choices. My interest really peaked when I went with a dear friend, her husband and 3-year-old daughter to be with them during the birth of their 2nd daughter. I had a double duty. I helped keep the 3-year-old entertained and video taped the birth of Rachel. I was also asked by a dear friend to be at her side during her scheduled cesarean for the birth of her child, which she chose to place for adoption. I was helping those close to me and at the same time they helping me realize how wonderful, empowering and sacred birth can be and that I wanted to continue helping other women while they give birth.
I am now a Certified Birth Doula and a member of DONA (Doulas of North America). I completed my Doula Training at St. Mary's Birth Center in Milwaukee. Since the completion of my Doula Training I have also taken a Swedish Massage Class through the Fox Valley School of Massage, a Breast Feeding Class at our local hospital and was able to observe a "Bradley Method" Class (a course in Natural Childbirth Education) and attended a Hypnobirthing Class with one of my clients. I am also an active member of Operation Special Delivery (OSD), which was formed in response to the events of 9/11/01. OSD helps pregnant wives of US Military men that have been called up, deployed, injured or have become deceased as a direct result of Operation Enduring Freedom. For those that qualify through this program, there is no charge for my services.
I have always felt passionate about pregnancy and the birth experience and find the role I play as a Doula extremely rewarding. Nurturing is second nature to me and I have formed wonderful bonds with the couples and babies that I have worked with. I don't look at my role as a doula as a job but as an extension of my life as a woman, mother and friend.
